Your concert report isn’t due until May 17th, but it is always a good idea to plan ahead. I just wanted to make you aware of this assignment early in the term. For this report you need to attend a CSM student concert and then write a report.
The Report, minimum of 500 words, should be posted on or before the due date.
It is best to write the report within 1-2 days of attending/viewing/listening to the concert.
Submit your paper as a text entry or a file (pdf, doc, docx or txt) (No google docs links)
Take notes during the concert and document your impressions about the pieces and your experience. Your report should indicate a clear understanding, and specific application, of at least five terms or ideas from class. Please underline these five terms in your paper. Apply the terms to the music you heard at the concert. Examples include tempo terms (allegro, andante, accelerando etc.), dynamics (forte, piano, crescendo etc), instrumentation (brass section, choir, orchestra etc.), meter (4/4, 3/4 triple meter, duple meter etc), rhythm, melody and so on. Beyond that requirement, you may address any aspect of the concert that you feel is appropriate. If the concert has numerous pieces, you may focus on just a few. However, still include your overall impressions of the event.
Organize your thoughts clearly in writing and check grammar and spelling. Grammar and spelling count! It’s always a good idea to have someone proof-read your paper before turning it in.
Include the following in your report:
Name of the performance
Name(s) of the performers (if it is a large group, just the soloists, conductor name of group)
Location of the performance
Date of the performance
Titles of pieces being performed (only the ones you are talking about)
Instrumentation (i.e., full orchestra, chamber orchestra, chorus, piano & violin, etc.)
A running description of what each piece expressed (feelings, emotions, ideas, sensory experiences, etc.)
Observations regarding how the musical expression was accomplished including aspects of the melody, rhythm, harmony, orchestration, tempo, dynamics etc.
Description of how the music affected you!
Site any references, even if you did not quote them word for word.
Do Not Plagiarize. You will receive 0% if I find any plagiarized elements in your paper. If you need to quote something from the program, online resources or books, make sure you use quotes and include references/acknowledgements.
Do Not Use AI. This is considered cheating and will receive a grade of ‘0’.v
