Human papilloma virus (HPV) has been shown to cause a variety of cancers affecting all genders. A vaccine is available, but only effective if administered before an individual is infected with the virus. The American Cancer Society advocates for vaccinating youth between the ages of 9 and 12, and founded the HPV Vaccination Roundtable to improve vaccination rates.
For this assignment, suppose that Dr. Gabrielle Darville-Sanders, strategic director of the HPV Vaccination Roundtable, has approached you for your take on a new study using ordinary least squares regression to study support for vaccination in the American populationLinks to an external site.. The study uses ordinary least squares regression to analyze how individual characteristics predict support HPV vaccination (see Table 2). The study also assesses support for six other types of vaccination, ranging from COVID-19 to polio. Dr. Darville-Sanders is aware that the study shows hesitancy about the HPV vaccine is second only to COVID among the seven forms studied, but is hoping you have time to dig a little deeper.
In a 1-2 page memo, use the regression results reported in this study to address the following:
How would you describe an individual least likely to be supportive of HPV vaccination?
Of the two models used to predict support for HPV vaccination which do you recommend paying more attention to and why?
To conserve resources, the HPV Vaccination Roundtable may wish to partner with advocacy groups promoting acceptance of other vaccines. If the Roundtable and its prospective partners aim to target resources at the greatest skeptics, do the data provide as to guidance as to which partnership(s) would be more or less synergistic?
