REQUIREMENTS:

Using the REQUIRED textbooks listed in the READING Materials section of the CONTENT area, and showcasing the history discovered by citing the exact PAGE in the book that you found the HISTORY discussed. Aside from the video, you may use additional scholarly sources but the textbook must be used and cited with exact pages to show the reading and comprehension work has been done for this week.

Choose one of the below for your main post. The initial post with well referenced facts is due by Wednesday, 11:55 p.m. ET.  (in the subject line, place a creative, enticing title, the question number, and your answer). Two peer responses are due by Friday, 11:55 p.m. ET–respond to at least one student who answered a different question from you. The answers should come from your textbook, the lectures, and videos.

Question 1:

How successful was Reconstruction? What measures were created to assist the Freedmen? Give examples of how the ex-slave society tried to stop the advancement of African Americans  after the Civil War.

Question 2:

Use your readings (and perhaps a little more research) to fully understand and answer the following questions.

Today the Emancipation Proclamation is one of the most cherished and celebrated documents from the history of the United States? Define the Emancipation Proclamation and discuss its significance during the era? Why did Lincoln propose this measure and what was its effect on society?
