The course objectives focus on the role of innovation in healthcare delivery, especially nursing. The objectives are categorical that innovations have a critical role, especially in efforts to meet different policies and legislations like the Affordable Care Act 2010 and the Quadruple Aim of healthcare delivery. Again, models like value-based care are emphatic on quality care provisions for providers to enhance patient outcomes and level of satisfaction (Bombard, et al., 2019). Therefore, innovations, especially those that leverage technologies, are at the intersection of quality care delivery and improved interactions between nurses and patients.
Technological innovations like patient engagement automation, telehealth and telemedicine as well as virtual care and even electronic health records and use of patient portals all demonstrate the critical role of nurses in integrating better ways to coordinate quality and patient-centered care (Campbell et al., 2020). Imperatively, the course knowledge is emphatic that nurses as healthcare providers should have different strategies to implement and apply innovation as a collaborative activity in their teams and multidisciplinary formations to deliver healthcare to improve patient outcomes.
The first strategy is to leverage technologies that are patient-centered which enhance engagement and interactions between patients and providers. Leveraging these technologies ensures that patients understand their treatment journeys and collaborate with providers to improve their care outcomes (Newman et al., 2021). Secondly, improved communication means that all stakeholders understand the different components of these technologies (Lyles et al., 2020). Again, communication leads to getting a buy-in and more input and feedback to improve the systems during implementation and working.
The third strategy is to involve patients and their families in these interventions with the aim of increasing their understanding and use. Technologies like AI-powered monitoring ensures that patients have better outcomes based on routine follow up after their discharge from hospitals (Meyer, 2020). The implication is that the implementation of innovative technologies will improve different aspects of care delivery for both patients and nurses in their healthcare setting and even at home.
