Review the following case scenario:
You are the Hospitalist NP on duty when an upset wife of a recent L-MCA stroke patient, on the floor you are covering, comes to talk about the care her husband is receiving. She is concerned that he is not able to eat anything, and how the “feeding tube” that he has is not providing him with optimal nutrition. He now cannot safely eat at this time due to his high risk of aspiration. You talk with her and get her calmed down and then talk with the nurses.
Discuss both of the areas listed below:
Effective communication strategies for this family in the patient-family centered care system of today’s hospital.
How the AGACNP as a member of the interprofessional team can collaborate and communicate with other members of the team (including nurses, other providers, patient care technicians, etc.) to best help this patient improve and get home safely.
