Unit 7 Assignment Directions: Cybersecurity Matrix and Briefing
Purpose
The objective of this assignment is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of cybersecurity regulatory policies in various regions following your company’s recent acquisition of an international company. Additionally, you will prepare a policy briefing for the C-suite, outlining the implications of these policies on your company’s operations and strategies for assimilating the acquired company from a cybersecurity perspective.
Instructions
Policy Analysis Matrix:
Research and explore cybersecurity regulatory policies in the regions where the acquired company has offices: Asia, Europe, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Each student will select a different region or country to focus on—i.e., you can select Asia, or just Japan.
Create a matrix detailing the policies in each region, focusing on areas such as:
o Data protection and privacy regulations
o Supply chain and risk management requirements
o Vendor management guidelines
o Standards and frameworks for cybersecurity
o Incident response and reporting protocols
o Infrastructure and cloud security standards
o Training and awareness programs
o Relevant local laws and regulations
o Cross-border data transfer regulations
Provide an explanation of each policy, highlighting any differences from US policy.
Analyze how your company will need to adjust its cybersecurity practices and policies following the acquisition, considering the differences in regional regulations.
Policy Briefing for C-suite:
Based on your analysis, prepare a policy briefing document for the C-suite executives of your company.
Structure the briefing to include the following key elements:
o Overview of the international company acquisition and its cybersecurity implications.
o Summary of the cybersecurity policy analysis matrix, highlighting key differences from US policies.
o Assessment of risks and mitigation strategies associated with the acquisition, considering regional cybersecurity regulations.
o Recommendations for necessary changes and adjustments to cybersecurity practices and policies.
o Considerations for addressing cross-cultural differences in cybersecurity approaches.
o Discussion of legal and ethical considerations relevant to the acquisition.
o Budgetary implications of implementing cybersecurity changes and enhancements.
o Ensure clarity, conciseness, and professionalism in the briefing document.
Company- Equifax ( group has been writing about Equifax Cyber breach from 2017 all semester)
Country/ Region- Asia
This assignment has two parts: a matrix analyzing cybersecurity regulatory policies across the regions of an acquired international company, and a C-suite policy briefing on the implications and integration strategy. Research real regulations and translate them for executives.
Key takeaways
- Research the actual cybersecurity regulations in each relevant region (e.g., GDPR in the EU).
- Build a comparison matrix: region, key regulations, requirements, implications.
- Translate the analysis into a C-suite briefing — business impact, not legal jargon.
- Propose a strategy to assimilate the acquired company securely and compliantly.
- Cite authoritative sources.
Build the policy analysis matrix
For each region where the acquired company operates, research the governing cybersecurity/data-protection laws — e.g., GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), PIPL (China), and sector rules. Tabulate region, key regulation, core requirements, penalties, and operational implications.
Analyze the implications
Identify where requirements conflict or raise the compliance bar, data-transfer restrictions, and the gaps between the acquirer’s and the acquired company’s postures.
Write the C-suite briefing
Translate the matrix into executive language: business risks, cost and liability, and a prioritized strategy to assimilate the acquired company — unified policies, data governance, training, and phased compliance.
Format
Deliver the matrix plus a concise briefing, and cite authoritative sources.
