This project consists of 3 parts:
Texas Penal Code Research: The Texas Penal Code
is available
through http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/ (Expa
nd the list of Texas Statues at the bottom left side
of this page then scroll down to Penal Code). You
will select a category of offense from Titles 4-11 to
concentrate on. Your goal is to obtain information
about the definitions, concepts, and classifications
of crimes and penalties for one section (Title) of
the Texas Penal Code.
Interviews: You must interview one criminal justice
professional (law enforcement, judges,
prosecutors, jailers, etc.) in a Texas
agency/department. The professional you select
should have some general knowledge and
expertise related to the Category of Offense you
research from the Texas Penal Code. You should
prepare a list of questions that you will ask the
interviewee before you begin the
interview. Suggestions: Why did they choose that
career/agency? What type of qualifications? What
type of training is required? What is future job out
look, etc. Ask about a “most memorable case” that
they worked and its outcome. Ask questions about
the Texas Penal Code and the Title you selected.
