The assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to apply object modeling techniques and demonstrate how

different systems analysis models can be integrated to provide a comprehensive understanding of

an information system. You will select an existing or proposed information system, identify its

major objects and classes, develop UML models, and explain how these models connect with the

requirements, processes, and other analysis components of the system. This assignment focuses

on application and analysis. Your video presentation should demonstrate your understanding of the

concepts rather than simply providing definitions.

Instructions (Put all the steps in PowerPoint)

Step 1: Select an Information System

Select an existing or proposed information system that is appropriate for object modeling.

Examples include:

University Course Registration System

Online Shopping System

Hotel Reservation System

Banking System

Healthcare Appointment System

Library Management System

Restaurant Ordering System

Employee Management System

Inventory Management System

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) System

Airline Reservation System

Food Delivery System

Mobile Banking System

You may select another system if it provides enough complexity for meaningful analysis.

Step 2: System Overview

Provide a brief overview of the organization and the information system.

Explain:

What the system does

Who will use it

What problem it addresses

What business processes it supports

Why the organization needs the system

Step 3: Identify Objects/Classes

Identify at least 8 major classes/objects in your system.

For each class, briefly explain its role. For example, a university registration system might

include:

Student

Course

Instructor

Department

Registration

Schedule

Classroom

Classroom

Payment

Explain why these classes are important to the system.

Step 4: Class Attributes and Responsibilities

Select several important classes and identify these:

Major attributes

Responsibilities

Relevant operations/methods

Explain how these characteristics support the functionality of the system.

Step 5: UML Class Diagram

Create and present a UML Class Diagram for your system.

Your diagram should include:

At least 8 classes

Important attributes

Major operations where appropriate

Relationships between classes

Multiplicity/cardinality

Appropriate UML notation

Use one or two slides if necessary to make the diagram readable.

Do not place a tiny diagram on one slide simply to meet the requirement. The diagram

should be large enough to read during your video presentation.

Step 6. Class Relationship Analysis

Select at least five important relationships from your class diagram.

Explain:

Which classes are connected

The type of relationship

What the relationship means

Why the relationship is necessary

Use examples from your selected system.

Step 7: Create UML Use Case Diagram

Create a UML Use Case Diagram showing how users interact with your system. Briefly explain

the most important interactions.

Your diagram should include:

At least 4 actors

At least 6 major use cases

Actor–use case relationships

System boundary

Step 8: Connecting Use Cases and Objects

Explain how your use cases relate to the classes/objects in your class diagram.

For example:

Use Case: Place an Order

Actors: Customer, Payment Service

Related Classes: Customer, Order, Product, Payment

Explain how the objects/classes support the selected use case.

Step 9: Systems Analysis Integration

Explain how object modeling fits into the broader systems analysis process. Your goal is to show that these models represent different perspectives of the same system.

Discuss the relationship between:

Requirements

Business processes

Data

Use cases

Objects/classes

System functionality

Step 10: Prepare a Video Presentation

You must appear on camera during the presentation.

Speak clearly and professionally.

You must use presentation slides.

There is no specific minimum or maximum number of slides.

Focus on key ideas, visuals, diagrams, and examples rather than large blocks of text.

There is no strict time limit, but your presentation should be sufficiently detailed to

address all required components.

You may record your presentation using:

o Zoom

o PowerPoint Record Slideshow

o Microsoft Teams

o Loom

o Canvas/D2L recording tools

o Another comparable recording platform

Submission Instructions

Submit both of the following through D2L:

1. Video presentation

2. PowerPoint presentation file (.pptx)

You may submit the video as:

A video file

YouTube Unlisted

Google Drive

OneDrive

Another accessible video-sharing platform

If submitting a link, make sure the sharing permissions allow the instructor to view the video.

Videos that cannot be accessed at the time of grading may receive a score of zero.

This assignment applies object modeling to an information system — identifying objects and classes, building UML models, and showing how they integrate with requirements and processes. It’s a video presentation demonstrating understanding, not just definitions.

Key takeaways

  • Select a real or proposed information system to model.
  • Identify its major objects and classes.
  • Build UML models (class, use case, sequence) that connect.
  • Show how the models integrate with requirements and processes.
  • Demonstrate understanding in the video, not textbook definitions.

Choose the system and find the objects

Pick a system (e.g., an online booking or library system). Identify its major objects/classes — their attributes and methods — from the problem domain.

Build integrated UML models

Develop complementary diagrams: a use case diagram (what users do), a class diagram (structure and relationships), and a sequence diagram (how objects interact over time). Explain how each view captures a different facet.

Show the integration

This is the key: explain how the models connect to each other and to the requirements and processes — how use cases map to classes and to the sequences that realize them — giving a comprehensive understanding no single model provides.

Format

Present it in a video that demonstrates reasoning, with the diagrams on screen.
